About this artwork The cycle of 28 paintings in the hallways of the main building depicting views of Swiss industry, technology and civil engineering was created, for the most part, by the landscape artist and architect Wilhelm Ludwig Lehmann between 1921 and 1931. The iconic viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway near Filisur is a masterpiece of engineering and the painting itself an outstanding example of the aim of this cycle: to showcase Switzerland’s industrial and technical progress at the time, to which ETH Zurich made an important contribution as the country’s technical education facility. All the paintings were donated by private and public institutions.
